“In times of economic hardship and political transition a sense of permanent instability takes hold and expands into a pulverizing psychosis. You feel as if you are no more than the sum of fluid atmospheric parts, and yet paradoxically the atmosphere itself starts to also assume characteristics your internal psyche. The Baroque of the Counter-Reformation emerges in a new light, Hassan Khan’s sculpture The Twist (2012) on view at SALT Beyoğlu, the writings of Hito Steyerl and Franco “Bifo” Berardi in e-flux journal are possible departure points.
