Long Thursday

SALT Beyoğlu and SALT Galata

This month’s Long Thursday, taking place on December 27, will include building tours at SALT Beyoğlu and SALT Galata, as well as guided tours of the Fall exhibitions at SALT. The tours will start at the ground floor of both buildings at 18.00 and 19.00 at SALT Beyoğlu and at 19.00 and 20.00 at SALT Galata.

The tour of İstanbul Eindhoven-SALTVanAbbe: Modern Times, one of the exhibitions at SALT Galata which will close on December 30, will be guided by Vasıf Kortun, Director of SALT Research and Programs. The exhibition brings together the works of 43 eminent artists, from Pablo Picasso to Yüksel Arslan and from Raoul Dufy to Fikret Mualla. Another exhibition at SALT Galata, titled The Performance of Modernity: ATATÜRK KÜLTÜR MERKEZİ, 1946-1977, which focuses on the construction story of AKM, is open until January 6, 2013. The exhibition tour will be led by Meriç Öner, from SALT Research and Programs.

On the other hand, SALT Beyoğlu hosts the most comprehensive exhibition to date of artist-musician-writer Hassan Khan. You can see a selection of videos, sculptures, texts, photographs and installations Khan has produced since the mid-90s during the tour guided by Duygu Demir, from SALT Research and Programs. The exhibition will close on January 6, 2013.

On the final Long Thursday of the year, the television series The Shock of the New (1980) by acclaimed writer and art critic Robert Hughes, who passed away earlier this year, will be screened in the Walk-in Cinema at SALT Beyoğlu.
