Relationship between art and politics and the case of progressive/democratic art in the 1970s



Güler Bek received her Master’s and PhD from the History of Art Department, Hacettepe University. From 2004 until 2007 she worked as an assistant for the “Monuments and Sculpture Applications” project, carried out by the British Association under the curatorship of Zeynep Yasa Yaman. Her articles appeared in contemporary art magazines such as Art Yearbook, Plato and Young Art. Bek is currently a faculty member at Süleyman Demirel University.

Yusuf Taktak graduated from the Department of Painting, İstanbul State Academy of Fine Arts. Between 1976-1990 he worked at the İstanbul Painting and Sculpture Museum. His photorealist paintings focus on social and political issues during the ‘70s. Since 2005, he has been teaching at the Faculty of Art and Design, Yıldız Technical University.
