Ai Weiwei proposed that Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry (2012) be screened during the run of the exhibition Taiping Tianguo to give further context to the relationship between his artistic practice and his political activities. In addition the recent sculptural works Wooden Cuffs (2012) and Hanger (2012) were selected with Ai Weiwei to be premiered in Istanbul as they refer to Ai Weiwei’s period of incarceration and his subsequent ongoing surveillance by the police.
Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry is a documentary that chronicles artist and activist Ai Weiwei as he prepares for a series of exhibitions and becomes involved in an increasing number of clashes with the Chinese government.
Taiping Tianguo is on view at SALT Beyoğlu until August 11.
