Talk: Aslıhan Demirtaş
Salt Ulus
October 5, 2013 15.00
Aslıhan Demirtaş will talk about the research process leading to the exhibition Modern Essays 5: Graft, which explores the relationship between nature and modernism by tracing dam building practices in modern Turkey. The talk will focus on the State’s attitude towards nature, as established during the early republican projects undertaken in Ankara that included the Çubuk Dam and the Atatürk State Farm reservoirs, strategies later introduced to all rivers across Turkey to date. The talk will also outline the research and production processes of the drawings, databases, models and related background information that led to the exhibition.
The exhibition is on view at SALT Ulus from September 26 to November 30.
The talk will be held in Turkish.
