Long Thursday
November 2013

Salt Beyoğlu, Salt Galata, Salt Ulus

November 28, 2013 18.00 – 22.00

This month’s Long Thursday at SALT Beyoğlu includes a guided tour of A Promised Exhibition at 19.00 (Turkish and English), and at 20.00 a screening of a creative commons documentary project titled Preempting Dissent (English without subtitles) by Greg Elmer and Andy Opel. Released in 2013, the documentary interrogates the expansion of the so-called “Miami-Model” of protest policing, a set of strategies developed in the wake of 9/11 to preempt forms of mass protest at major events in the US and worldwide. The screening will be followed by a Q&A with Elmer and media theorist Jussi Parikka.

A guided tour of the exhibition One, No One and One Hundred Thousand at SALT Galata will start at 19.00 (Turkish and English). Elio Montanari’s first major solo exhibition includes sequences of photographs that expose the concentration and passion of individual artists as they work, including well-known practitioners such as Marina Abramović, Matthew Barney and James Lee Byars among many others.

At SALT Ulus, academician Burcu Yiğit Turan will give a talk titled “Landscape and Power” at 19.00 within the scope of the exhibition Modern Essays 5: Graft. Deriving from the contemporary theory of landscape and the intersections that it unfolds inbetween imaginary and real, culture and nature, this talk will attempt to interpret dams in Turkey and the exhibition. Following the talk there will be exhibition tours at 20.00 (Turkish) and at 20.30 (English).

In addition, visitors can enjoy special discounts at the café in SALT Galata and at the bookstores in SALT Beyoğlu and SALT Galata. At SALT Galata, The Ottoman Bank Museum, which reinterprets the world of the late Ottoman era and the early Republic period remains open until 22.00 and SALT Research, with its comprehensive library and archives is open until 20.00 on Long Thursdays.
