“Ethnography as Art, Art as Ethnography”

Ethnographer Leyla Neyzi and artist Köken Ergun both view their respective practices as reconstructions or representations of their informants’ creative process. The conversation, based on the intersections between Neyzi and Ergun’s work, will touch upon topics such as reflexivity, ethics and the multiplicity of audiences.

Following the event, there will be a screening of the artist’s short film from 2012 Ashura (22’, Turkish and Azeri with English subtitles) that was awarded at the 63rd Berlinale Film Festival.

Organized within the scope of Ergun’s current exhibition Crowds and Power at SALT Ulus, the conversation will be broadcast live at SALT Ulus and the film will be screened simultaneously at both SALT Galata and SALT Ulus.

The conversation will be held in Turkish.

Professor Leyla Neyzi currently teaches anthropology at Sabancı University in İstanbul.

Köken Ergun is a video artist based in İstanbul and Berlin.
