Screening Program:
state-theatre

Salt Beyoğlu

May 31 – June 6, 2014

SALT Beyoğlu, Walk-in Cinema

Initiated by Daniel Kötter and Constanze Fischbeck, state-theatre is a series of six experimental documentaries that explore the current urban conditions for performance art based on six case studies in Lagos, Tehran, Berlin, Detroit, Beirut and Mönchengladbach. state-theatre departs from places that have shed their apparent societal functions: deserted areas, construction sites, unused or reinterpreted buildings, places that were originally meant as allegoric gathering places: theaters.

The screening of state-theatre on June 4 at SALT Beyoğlu will be followed by a talk by Kötter and Fischbeck at 19.00.

The screening program will feature the listed films in order, daily, starting at 12.00 and again at 16.00 (n.b. the screening program will play only once on June 1 at 14.00 and on June 4 at 15.00).

Daniel Kötter is a director and video artist whose work deliberately oscillates between different media and institutional contexts, combining techniques of structuralist film with documentary elements and experimental music theater. Since mid-2009, Kötter’s series of installations, films, and discursive work on urban and socio-political conditions of performativity has been formed under the title state-theatre in collaboration with Constanze Fischbeck. His work has been shown in galleries, video festivals, concert halls and theaters across Europe, as well as in New York, Mexico City, Tehran and Lagos.

Constanze Fischbeck works as a stage designer and video artist. Her artwork is based on the space and present condition of specific locations. In her films she investigates the interference of documentary and staged moments in the urban context. Her work has been presented at various festivals, art institutes and theaters.
