Totul nu va fi bine [Everything Will Not Be Fine] (2020)
Director: Adrian Pîrvu, Helena Maksyom
82 minutes
English, Russian, Romanian, Ukrainian; Turkish subtitles

Adrian, a filmmaker struggling with glaucoma and partial blindness, hopes to find purpose in his life before he turns 30. He was born in the year of the Chernobyl nuclear disaster, and his mother always believed that his illness was caused by her visit to Ukraine, while she was six months pregnant. Feeling lonely and angry, Adrian decides to leave his life in Romania and travel to Ukraine to document the stories of people affected by what happened in 1986. In Kiev, he meets with Helena, who also suffers the consequences of the disaster and deals with chronic pain. They become friends, fall in love, and decide to make the film together. As they discover the scale of Chernobyl’s impact on an entire generation, their lives take an unforeseen turn. Besides the struggle with their own health issues, Adrian and Helena try to find out what binds them together and what stands in their way, and the search for an answer transcends their personal stories.

The feature-length documentary, Totul nu va fi bine [Everything Will Not Be Fine] (2020) directed by Adrian Pîrvu and Helena Maksyom, won the Best Ukrainian Feature Film and Best Director awards at the 11th Odesa International Film Festival.
