Mira, a respected midwife about to retire, lives with her husband and adult son. The morning begins as usual: Mira is busy with the daily household chores; she hangs up the laundry, buys food for the fish, and then robs a bank using a kitchen knife. The sensational plot twist becomes the starting point of an existential drama. As her family and life fall apart, she is forced to look within and discover what she must change to ensure a more fulfilling life. Kobieta na dachu [Woman on the Roof] is a moving portrait of helplessness and loneliness, accompanied by an unassuming score from Katharina Nuttall.
The screening will take place on Tuesday, November 21 at 19.30 in the Walk-in Cinema, followed by a Q&A session with director Anna Jadowska.
Anna Jadowska graduated from the Łódź Film School and the Andrzej Wajda School of Directing. Her feature film Dotknij mnie [Touch Me] was presented at the Berlinale Forum in 2003, and her short Korytarz [Corridor] was selected for Cannes’ International Critics’ Week in 2004. Her last feature, Dzikie róże [Wild Roses], won numerous awards, including the Impact Award at the Stockholm International Film Festival and five awards at Cottbus IFF.
