Suçlular Aramızda [The Guilty Are Among Us] (1964)
Director: Metin Erksan
Actors: Ekrem Bora, Belgin Doruk, Leyla Sayar, Tamer Yiğit
101 minutes
Turkish
A piece of jewelry claimed to be of great value is stolen from the estate of a wealthy family in Istanbul. The truth is that the stolen necklace is fake. This fake necklace becomes a matter of pride and struggle for supremacy between the thieves and the family’s son, revealing social class conflicts and fanning the fire of vengeance.
Suçlular Aramızda [The Guilty Are Among Us] pits the desire to belong to a certain social class against the notion of justice, converging the style of detective fiction with profound social critique. The film won Metin Erksan the award for “Best Director” at the 34th Izmir International Fair and “Best Social Content” at the Milano Film Festival in 1965.
Organized in parallel to the exhibition No Further Records: Reşad Ekrem Koçu and Istanbul Encyclopedia Archive, the screening is free of charge and open to all.
Limited seats. No reservations.
