32 minutes

Suyun Yolculuğu [Journey of Water] traces the Büyük Menderes River from its source in the Aegean to where it meets the sea. The river is vital in sustaining life in the region, home to endangered bird species like the Dalmatian pelican, the Tavas Mountain frog, European eel, endemic freshwater fish, and over thirty endemic plant species. It supports the cultivation of cotton, olives, and figs, playing a crucial role in both agriculture and industry. However, it has been facing increasing threats from rising water consumption.
Produced by WWF-Türkiye (World Wide Fund for Nature), the documentary will be screened on Wednesday, March 19 at 17.30 in the Walk-in Cinema at Salt Beyoğlu. Following the screening, Eren Atak, WWF-Türkiye’s Freshwater and Wetlands Program Manager, will give a talk focusing on the river’s diverse ecosystem.
Organized in collaboration with WWF-Türkiye as part of Salt’s Water Assemblies program, this free-admission screening and talk is open to everyone. The film will be shown with English subtitles, and the talk will be held in Turkish.
Eren Atak received his BA in Biology from Hacettepe University and his MA in Environmental Engineering from Middle East Technical University. His passion for nature began with birdwatching, and his work at WWF-Türkiye has shaped his professional career. Atak has collaborated with various international organizations, including the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), on projects related to the environment, rural development, and climate change. Since 2011, he has been working on freshwater ecosystems at WWF-Türkiye.
